Polyphemus Moth

Both the caterpaillar and the moth of this species are remarkable: The caterpillar develops brilliant gold markings in its late instars; and the moth, which is huge, features four round spots, one in each wing, that have no scales — you can see through them, like tiny portholes.

Host Plant(s): Oak.
